THE GOOD
The great thing about reading comics is that every month there is a new installment of Invincible to partake of. The best thing about this issue, is the cover price, 25 cents physical and free on Comixology. What excuse do you have to not pick it up?
Anyway, the story here is really great. The first few pages give a REALLY brief overview of the story. It almost weakens all the stuff in the past being summed up so quickly but it was cool to see all the old art. We begin a new adventure. It is weird seeing Mark and Eve in their new situation. This new direction is wide open with opportunities though, that is something exciting. An old friend returns with a very interesting girlfriend. The new dynamic is set up and as always Kirkman drops a bomb on the last page. A conversation that has been needing to happen FINALLY happened, after a highly comical incident that I wish I could say I couldn't relate to. But whatever.
Ryan Ottley is killing it on art. I think the new colours help set this section of the story apart from all the serious superhero episodes that have come before. It creates a new feel and the colours are so enjoyable.
THE BAD
Sometimes it feels like Mark opens up too easily. I have been waiting for Mark to open up for a while but after two denials in this issue he finally gets things off his chest. Kirkman knows what he is doing with the characters so I am not worried, I literally said, "FINALLY!" I think that scene would have come earlier but I love how Kirkman wrote the scenes. Overall, no complaints.
THE VERDICT
Invincible is going places that are new and interesting. I am excited to see how his new life treats him and what kind of adventures he will get into. Kirkman continues to write this books perfectly and Ottley draws amazing expressions. The colours establish a new feel and tone to the book. Invincible is the best comic in the universe.
