THE GOOD
- This is the hook. I subscribe to a three issue minimum of reading before you describe to drop the book. Warren Ellis knows what he is doing in the comic industry. While the first two issues have been very confusing and daunting, issue three makes up for all the confusion and really lets you see where the series is headed. This issue roped me in and really just took my breath away. I wanted more. I wanted it to keep going. A good sign of a great comic is when I don’t want the issue to end, even though I know it is coming.
Now, I owe another apology to Declan Shalvey. I have mentioned before that when he drew Venom I was not a fan. Moon Knight won me over a bit more, and now with Injection, I am sold. This issue is the best work he has ever down and is complimented so much by Jordie Bellaire’s colors. All of this is a fantastic combination. There are pages and panel in this issue that will leave you stunned.
In terms of plot and characters, the roster is being fleshed out and I feel like Ellis finally gave us enough to know what is going on. I am still confused but I have a few fingers on the ledge and will hold on for more.
THE BAD
- Injection is still a confusing book. There are a lot of ideas that need to be explained. That doesn’t take away from the story but it can be annoying. So deal with it. Trust that Ellis knows where it is going and just enjoy the ride.
THE VERDICT
- The story elements that are mixing in this book make me want to read more. Mixing British and old English folklore with weird sci-fi/fantasy stuff is GREAT! The art is beautiful to look at and Ellis’ writing is sassy and engaging. Take the time and have the patience to read the full story that he is building and enjoy the world he is creating.
